Corker doesn’t rule out White House run
Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) on Wednesday wouldn’t rule out a future presidential bid but said his attention was focused on other potential 2016 GOP presidential contenders.
“I’ve never looked at myself as being that person,” said Corker on MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown,” adding, “who knows what happens down the road?”
Corker said there were other GOP hopefuls much better known to the public.
{mosads}“I really do think there are people who are much more known that can carve out that problem-solving place, but we’ll just see what happens over time,” he added.
Corker told National Journal in late June that “every senator has probably thought about [running for president].”
He said Wednesday that he hopes the GOP nominee is an “outstanding candidate that has tremendous recognition across our country that offers solutions to problems.”
Corker has served in the Senate since 2007 and is up for reelection in 2018. Before coming to Capitol Hill, he served as mayor of Chattanooga, Tenn.
