From Barclays to Broadway: DNC in NYC?

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday released the Big Apple’s video pitch to host the Democratic National Convention in 2016. 

New York is among six cities vying for the chance to host the event. The others are Birmingham, Ala.; Cleveland; Columbus, Ohio; Phoenix and Philadelphia.

“This is New York City. From Barclays to Broadway. From Carroll Gardens to Corona. The Apollo Theater to the Staten Island Ferry. This is a city where history is made in the Bronx while dinner is served in Queens and memories are made in Brooklyn,” the narrator says in the promotional video.

{mosads}The nearly two-minutelong clip features Chinatown, Lincoln Center, the Bronx Zoo, the city’s July 4 fireworks, the World Trade Center memorial site and the Statue Liberty, among other sites. 

“A city of neighborhoods, a place to call home, a destination worth the trip. Five boroughs, one city, like nowhere else on Earth,” the narrator continued.  

“This is New York City,” it said at the end. “DNC 2016 NYC.”

De Blasio has previously said he wants Brooklyn, specifically, to host the convention about two years from now. Earlier this month, the DNC said it would choose the host city either later this year or in 2015.

The Republican National Committee whittled down its list of potential host cities to four finalists in May — Cleveland, Dallas, Denver and Kansas City, Mo.

Las Vegas, which was considered the favorite, and Cincinnati have been eliminated. The party’s 2016 convention is slated for June 2016.
