Poll: Obama leads in swing-state Colorado

Romney’s favorability rating has increased markedly since becoming the party’s presumptive nominee, although he’s still viewed negatively by a majority of Colorado voters. Forty percent said they have a favorable view of Romney, compared to 52 unfavorable. Still, that’s up from 31 favorable and 60 unfavorable in April.

Only two months ago Colorado looked like a lock for Obama. He led Romney by 13 percentage points in a Public Policy Polling survey from early April, and Romney had just lost the Colorado Republican caucuses to Rick Santorum. However, the three most recent Colorado polls prior to Tuesday’s PPP survey showed the candidates in a statistical tie.

The president’s announcement on Friday that his administration will stop deporting illegal immigrants who come to the country at a young age could help the president regain his momentum in Colorado, which has a large and growing Hispanic population.

Obama’s lead among Hispanics has increased in Colorado to 60 to 33 over Romney, up from 53 to 38 in April.
