DCCC raises $22.6M in record first quarter

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) had a record-breaking fundraising haul in the first quarter, bringing in $22.6 million with strong support from members and online donations.

The committee now has $8.9 million cash on hand and $4.5 million in debt.

{mosads}That unprecedented amount is due in large part to strong support from members, who gave $4.3 million in the first quarter, more than any first quarter since Democrats lost majority control of the House. More than 50 percent of the caucus contributed to or raised money for the DCCC in the first three months of the year.

Three members have entirely paid their dues: Reps. Henry Cuellar (Texas) and Chris Van Hollen (Md.) both gave $300,000, and Chairman Steve Israel (N.Y.) gave $450,000 in dues along with raising $4.1 million for the committee.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) raised $7 million for the committee.

And freshman members, who earlier this quarter set a goal of full participation in fundraising for the committee, nearly met that goal with 92 percent of the freshman class contributing $226,250, raising nearly $1.2 million for the committee.

The committee also received 229,000 online donations, making it three consecutive record months of online contributions, with $1 million raised online in January, $1.5 million in February and $2.2 million in March. That online total is 83 percent more than the committee raised in the first quarter of 2012.

“Our record breaking fundraising success this quarter has been built on our Members stepping forward and our grassroots stepping up. We’ve broken records because people are tired of the obstruction in this Republican Congress and want to elect problem-solvers who will stand up for the middle class,” Israel said in a statement.
