Republicans have been talking for months about the possibility of wresting a House seat away from Democrats in deep-blue Massachusetts, but Democrats have balked, claiming the GOP won’t sink resources into Massachusetts when they could spend their money in more competitive districts elsewhere.

{mosads}The poll also showed Tierney with a 36 percent approval rating, while Tisei’s stands at 22 percent. But two in three voters haven’t heard of Tisei or have no opinion of him. One in four voters said the same about Tierney, who has been in office for eight terms.

Tierney’s campaign questioned the veracity of the poll, noting the absence of a demographic breakdown of how many Republicans and Democrats were sampled. The campaign also pointed out that Tisei’s poll showed Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) with a 24-point lead over Democrat Elizabeth Warren in the district, which clashes with other polling showing Warren and Brown in a tie statewide.

The poll of 400 likely voters was conducted May 2-3 using live telephone interviews and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
