Georgia Dem Barrow touts fiscal conservatism in first ad

Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.) touts his fiscal conservatism and attacks Congress in his first ad of the 2014 campaign cycle.

{mosads}Barrow, the last white Democratic House member from the Deep South, criticizes Washington and never mentions his party in the ad, which features his dog.

“Somebody once said if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog. Well, I wouldn’t wish Washington on a dog,” he says in the spot.

“I’m listening to Georgia. Georgians want good jobs, and I helped expand Plant Vogtle, deepen the Port of Savannah and protect Fort Gordon. Georgians hate politicians wasting our money and I’ve passed $100 billion in spending cuts and I’m working to pass a ‘No Budget, No Pay’ law for Congress,” Barrow says in the ad.

“I approve this message because she works harder than most of them do,” he continues, petting his dog.

Strategists say Barrow likely has a slight edge in his race despite his North Georgia district’s heavy Republican lean.
