Conservatives pony up for Cantor-slayer after primary
Republican Dave Brat brought in some big money since defeating House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) in their early June primary — including donations from a few conservative lawmakers.
{mosads}Brat raised more than $400,000 from May 22 through the end of June, according to his latest campaign finance report. That haul is nearly double what he’d raised during the rest of his campaign.
Donations came from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) and conservative Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), two regular thorns in the side of House GOP leaders.
A pair of Virginia Republicans donated to Brat as well after the primary. Reps. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) and Robert Hurt (R-Va.) both cut checks from their leadership PACs to Brat.
Brat is heavily favored to win this fall in the strongly Republican Richmond-area district.
