Republican gives up on recount in key Calif. House race
Republican Lesli Gooch is giving up on a recount in her race for retiring Rep. Gary Miller’s (R-Calif.) district, giving Democrats a big boost for his seat.
{mosads}Gooch finished narrowly behind Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar (D) for the second slot in the all-party primary, and had been fighting for a recount, hoping to pass him and face off against fellow Republican Paul Chabot in the fall.
But after early recount numbers proved that she’d likely fall short she gave up on Wednesday, according to the San Bernardino Sun.
That means Aguilar will advance, giving Democrats a candiddate in a Democratic-leaning district, likely their best pickup opportunity of the election cycle.
