NRCC names 10 to ‘Young Guns’ program

The National Republican Congressional Committee has moved 10 candidates to “Young Guns” status, the top designation in their candidate training program.

{mosads}The 10 are the first to make the cut, and include a number of candidates in top-targeted races. Most have posted strong fundraising figures, a major part of the program.

“Candidates that reach ‘Young Gun’ status have met a series of rigorous goals that will put them in a position to win on Election Day,” NRCC Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) said in a statement. “Our job as a committee is to help elect Republicans to office that will serve as a check and balance on the Obama Administration.  These 10 candidates have outlined conservative principles that will grow jobs, stop the harmful effects of ObamaCare, and get Washington’s spending under control.  I am confident that these candidates will continue to advocate for hardworking families in their respective districts through the November Elections.”

The candidates in top-targeted races include former Rep. Bob Dold (R-Ill.), Arizona’s Martha McSally, West Virginia’s Evan Jenkins and Florida’s Carlos Curbelo. The list also includes a pair of Republicans running for GOP-held open seats, Barbara Comstock in Virginia and Ryan Costello in Pennsylvania. Others who made the cut are Richard Tisei in Massachusetts, Steward Mills and Torrey Westrom in Minnesota and Mike Bost in Illinois.
