Christie: Clinton calling GOP enemies was ‘disgraceful’
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday trashed Hillary Clinton for referring to Republicans as enemies during last month’s Democratic debate.
“I saw the most disgraceful thing of the campaign a few weeks ago. Hillary Clinton was asked the enemy she was most proud of and she said, ‘Republicans,’” Christie said Tuesday during the Fox Business Network’s undercard debate in Milwaukee, Wis.
{mosads}“In the world where we have al Qaeda and ISIS [Islamic State in Iraq and Syria], the mullahs in Iran and [Russian President] Vladimir Putin, the woman who asks to run and represent all of the United States says her greatest enemies are people like you in this audience and us here.”
Republican candidate Christie went on to say he would be a president that brings the “entire country together for a better future.”
During last month’s Democratic debate, Clinton told moderators that the enemies she’s most proud of from her political career include the National Rifle Association, the Iranians, drug companies and the Republicans.
It drew bipartisan criticism, including from Vice President Joe Biden, who said after the debate that such a mindset is counterproductive.
Christie appeared on the undercard stage alongside former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.) and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, after Christie and Huckabee both failed to meet the threshold for the main-stage debate later Tuesday night.
The barb, which came toward the end of the debate, was indicative of Christie’s entire approach, where he repeatedly hit at the Democratic front-runner as his top target.
