The majority of Americans think the controversy over Hillary Clinton’s use of private email is serious and that she has not done enough to explain it, a new CNN/ORC poll found.

{mosads}Fifty-one percent in the poll agreed that the controversy is serious, that Clinton did something wrong and that she has not done enough to explain it. The poll also found the favorability rating for Clinton, the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, has dropped 6 percentage points since Thanksgiving.

Still, 57 percent of people in the poll say they’d be proud to have Clinton serve as president.

The email controversy erupted after reports uncovered that she exclusively used a private email address while serving as secretary of State. Aides to Clinton said they went through the emails in the account and turned over about 30,000 to the government for archiving. The rest of the emails were deemed personal and deleted.

Republican lawmakers have slammed Clinton’s use of the private email account and hit her with new subpoenas in their investigation into the Benghazi, Libya, terrorist attacks.

Americans still say they’d be proud of a Clinton presidency at the same rate that they did in March of 2008, during Clinton’s last primary bid for president. The percentage of Americans who said they’d be “proud” to have Clinton as president has jumped 7 percentage points from last year.

The CNN/ORC poll has a margin of error of 3 percentage points, and the results come from a sample of 1,009 Americans.
