Walker takes shot at Christie over hug

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker on Wednesday took a shot at potential Republican presidential primary rival Chris Christie over the New Jersey governor’s now-infamous hug in the Dallas Cowboys owner’s box.

Walker’s Green Bay Packers are playing Christie’s Cowboys in the NFL Playoffs on Sunday, and Walker tweeted a reference to the video of Christie hugging Cowboys owner Jerry Jones last Sunday at the team’s win over the Detroit Lions.

The Packers are the only team that is publicly owned as a non-profit.

Christie responded with a tweet of his own on Wednesday afternoon:

Christie, who said he hopes to go to Lambeau Field to see the game on Sunday, had previously taken a more conciliatory approach towards Walker. “If I do go to Lambeau this weekend, of course, Scott and I are friends and I’ll see him,” Christie told New York’s WFAN on Monday.

In addition to the possbile primary matchup, there were tensions between Walker and Christie during Walker’s campaign last year. Christie was head of the Republican Governors Association, and Walker signalled that he was not getting enough financial support from out of state, before later playing down the issue.

As for the hug, Christie is not backing down, saying Monday, “I would take all the abuse that I’m taking from some of these folks in return for Cowboys playoff wins.”
