Walker on 2016: ‘There’s a reason God put me’ in this spot

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) appeared open to a presidential run during an interview late Tuesday, saying, “there’s a reason God put me” in the position he is in.

{mosads}”I think with what I’ve had to go through in the last four years, both politically, but also in terms of the policies, certainly I feel that there’s a reason God put me in a spot to do the things that we’ve done and take on the kind of challenges we’ve done,” Walker said on the “Hugh Hewitt Show.”

“And it’s certainly something I’m going to take seriously and really look at it closely over the next month or two,” he added.

Asked if he was ruling out at presidential run, Walker said “absolutely not.”

“I very much believe that our next president should be a governor,” he said. “And I think you look at the mess in Washington, and you realize we need leaders from outside of our nation’s capital, and we need people who have been successful.”

2024 Election Coverage

Asked when he will make a decision, Walker said, “I think any candidate that’s going to be serious, by mid-year in 2015, has to be in the race.”

Walker was just sworn in for a second term after a close reelection race last year. He appears to be looking to avoid a fight, pushed for by some Republicans in the state legislature, to take on the unions once again and move to make Wisconsin a right-to-work state.

He said he is putting forward a budget and, after that, will be able to “see if this is the right calling.”
