Rand Paul heads back to Iowa

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is heading back to Iowa in August to meet with conservatives as he continues to explore a probable presidential bid in 2016.

{mosads}The Des Moines Register is reporting Paul is confirmed to speak to the Westside Conservative Club at 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 6. He is also invited to speak at the Family Leader Summit on Aug. 7, though not confirmed, and has previously said he’d be back for the Iowa State Fair, which starts Aug. 7.

This will be Paul’s fourth visit to the state over the past two years. He was there in June to campaign with Iowa Senate candidate Joni Ernst and to speak at the Iowa Republican Party’s state convention.

Iowa is friendly territory for Paul; supporters of his father, Ron Paul, took over the Iowa GOP in 2012 to send pro-Paul delegates to the party’s national convention. 

Rand Paul has been building his network there for months now, and recently added two Iowa-centric hires to his political apparatus.

Paul recently hired the party chairman in charge at that time, A.J. Spiker, as an adviser to his political action committee. And he announced Monday that he hired Steve Grubbs, who previously ran Herman Cain’s Iowa presidential campaign in 2012, as his PAC’s chief Iowa strategist.
