Senate votes to confirm Raskin to Treasury
The Senate confirmed Sarah Bloom Raskin to be a Deputy Secretary of the Treasury by voice-vote Wednesday.
Raskin will serve under Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew.
{mosads}Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) said Raskin would now be the highest ranking woman to ever serve in the Treasury Department.
“We need people in the administration like Sarah Bloom Raskin,” Cardin said. “I am thankful to Sarah and her family for her willingness to serve in this very challenging position.”
The Senate has spent most of the year considering President Obama’s judicial and executive nominees. Democrats changed the filibuster rules to make it easier for a simple majority to advance nominations.
The Senate also confirmed four judicial nominees to serve as U.S. district judges for the Eastern District of Michigan. Their names and vote tallies follow:
– Matthew Leitman was confirmed on a 98-0 vote.
– Judith Levy was confirmed on a 97-0 vote.
– Laurie Michelson was confirmed on a 98-0 vote.
– Linda Parker was confirmed on a 60-37 vote.
